Lane Co. sheriff: fatal shooting at Jehovah's Witnesses Oregon Church

LOWELL, Ore. — Lane County sheriff’s officers and Oregon State Police are hunting for a gunman who fatally shot another man Wednesday night at a church in the small Oregon town of Lowell.

A sheriff’s dispatcher identified the victim as a man and says no one else was injured.

KVAL reports the shooting took place at the local Kingdom Hall, a place of worship for Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The dispatcher says the shooting was reported just before 8:30 p.m.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Fred Swank tells KVAL there were witnesses and a suspect has been identified. He refused to discuss what was happening at the church when the shots were fired or how many people were present.

A dozen patrol cars swarmed to the scene.

Lowell is located southeast of Eugene.
