Basic Truths 9, 10 - The Kingdom and its Blessings

Since Adam and Eve disobeyed Jehovah and took themselves from under His rulership becoming independent of him, so that they could make their own decisions about what was right and wrong for them, humans have suffered with so many problems that they are unable to solve. None of the governments that they have set up for themselves have been able to solve the problems of sickness, aging, crime, death, war, poverty and hatred. No one can truly say that he is feels secure and happy even though he may have all of the latest security gadgets to protect his property and his life.

Jehovah knows that humans need a righteous government to rule the earth and to bring peace and security to mankind. He has promised in His word to do just this. When Jesus was on the earth the theme of his message was this kingdom. In teaching the importance of this government, Jesus taught his followers to pray that God’s kingdom would come to the earth so that His will be accomplished here as it had been done in the heavens. (Matthew 6:9, 10)

Daniel 2:44 tells us this: “And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall it be left to another people. It shall crush all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever.” This verse speaks of this kingdom as one that is not in existence already but has to be ‘set up’ by God and it comes into being during a time when many human governments are ruling. Daniel chapter two describes a vast image that represents these human government by means of various metals. The kingdom is described as a ‘stone that has been cut out of a mountain’ that hits the image on its feet and pulverizes it. This stone then grows until it encompasses the whole earth.

Under this kingdom the earth will be restored to paradisiacal conditions. Psalms 37:10, 11 say this: “Yet a little while and the wicked will be no more; though you look diligently for their place, they will not be there. But the meek shall inherit the land, and delight themselves in abundant prosperity.” Verse 29 further says “The righteous shall inherit the land and live in it forever.” Psalms 85:12 reminds us that “Jehovah will give what is good, and our land will yield its increase.” (See also Psalms 72:16) Sickness and death will be things of the past according to Isaiah 25:8 and 33:24. Wars will cease according to Psalms 46:8, 9. People will build homes and live in them always. (Isaiah 65:21, 22) Animals will enjoy peace with humans and with each other. (Isaiah 11:6)
