Basic Truth #13 – Wicked To Be Destroyed Eternally

Since Satan seduced the first woman in the Garden of Eden to break Jehovah’s laws, the majority of humans have had difficulty obeying them because of their inherited inclinations to do what is wrong. After only two thousand years of human history, Jehovah had to put to death all but eight humans because they were wicked. Genesis 6:5 explains how God saw the situation at this time. It reads: “Then the LORD [Jehovah] saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” 2 Peter 2:5 tells us this: “And he did not hold back from punishing an ancient world, but kept Noah a preacher of righteousness, safe with seven others when he brought a deluge upon a world of ungodly people.”

Lot, the nephew of Abraham was living in the city of Sodom when Jehovah decreed that because of the wickedness of its inhabitants, He was going to destroy them. At Genesis 18:20, the angel of Jehovah told Abraham that “the cry of complaint about Sodom and Gomorrah, yes it is loud, and their sin, yes, it is very heavy.” So He was determined to destroy these people. But as we learn from the writings of Peter at 2 Peter 2:6, “by reducing the cities Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them, setting a pattern for ungodly persons of things to come.”

Yes, it is God’s purpose to cut off all wicked, unruly people from the earth. Psalms 37:10 says this: “And just a little while longer, and the wicked will be no more; and you will certainly give attention to his place, and he will not be.” Proverbs 2:22 says: “As regards the wicked, they will be cut off from the very earth; and as for the treacherous, they will be torn away from it.” Additionally Psalms 92:7 adds, “When the wicked ones sprout as the vegetation and all the practicers of what is hurtful blossom forth, it is that they may be annihilated forever.” Only those who do the will of Jehovah will be left in the earth.
